eLearning Development
MeSure is a Home and Car Insurance company with over 2000 employees. The employees are expected to undergo a mandatory Email Safety and Prevention Training to safeguard themselves from potential phishing threats.
The employees will undertake the training at their workstations at their own pace. The current module is a powerpoint presentation with no interactions. The learners find it boring as it lacks creativity.
Creating a 10 to 15-minute self-paced Course, that is accessed from laptops and desktop computers in office. The course needs to be interactive and visually engaging with audio and closed captions.
Following a thorough training needs analysis with the client, a comprehensive design document is created and shared for approval. This document outlines key project details, including the project name, sponsors, team roles and responsibilities, audience profile, learning objectives, deliverables, project milestones, branding and color scheme, as well as the implementation and evaluation plan. It also addresses potential constraints and risks to ensure smooth project execution.
Developing an action map ensures that learning objectives are closely aligned with real-world performance goals. This map helps in keeping the focus on designing training solutions that drive measurable behavior changes and improved performance. The content is carefully curated to support the specific actions learners need to perform in their roles. By working backward from the desired learning outcomes, an action map helps identify the actions required to achieve those outcomes, design relevant practice activities, and provide the necessary information to ensure successful performance.
The next phase in course development involves creating the storyboard, which serves as a structured outline of the course content, organized slide by slide. Since this course includes audio narration, an MS Word storyboard effectively documented the step-by-step flow, audio scripts, visual elements, slide content, interactions, and other key components.
The course was created using Articulate Storyline due to its versatility and extensive interactive features, such as drag-and-drop, markers, and branching scenarios. Its PowerPoint-like interface makes it beginner-friendly and allows for a clear, comprehensive view of the entire project.
Story View
The Story View provides an overview of the course structure, showing its layout, flow, and branching between different scenes. Learners have the freedom to access specific parts of the course without having to follow a linear sequence.
Branching
Each learning objective of the course had a dedicated path designed as a branched scenario. This allows learners to navigate and have a personalised learning experience. Additionally, it gives learners a control over their journey and increses motivation to explore various lerning paths.
Layers
Incorporating additional content on separate layers provided more structure and clarity in course development. By using layers, we can avoid creating multiple slides for related content. The individual elements appear on the slide based on the learner selection which enhances interactivity and provides immediate feedback as well.
Drag- and- Drop Questions
Storyline provides various Quizzing tools like drag- and - drop, multiple- choice, true/ false questions and hotspots. These are some great ways to have knowledge checks and assessments in a course. The tool provides various options to configure the response and feedback to be given to the learners based on their response.
